In the 19th century science was often referred to as natural philosophy: there was no clear distinction between science and philosophy. Scientific instruments - chronometers, slide rules, scales etc. - were called philosophical instruments. In our day and age perhaps the ultimate philosophical instruments are handwriting tools.

Our writing instruments are made in Belgium and lacquered by some of the finest Japanese lacquer artists in the world. We strive for technical excellence as well as timeless elegance.
Philosophical Instruments creates a limited quantity of 20 to 30 writing instruments every year.
